Callaway Apex Utility Wood
One hot topic on tour at the moment is the newest edition to Mickelson’s bag. He had tweeted earlier in the week about a hybrid he loves.
“I think I found a hybrid I really love! Putting it in play this week and I’m excited to be back in Detroit for the Rocket Classic. My swing feels like Kiawah again after playing so so the last two weeks.” tweeted Mickelson.
There has been no official word from Callaway on this brand new product, however, multiple Callaway staff players have been spotted using the new hybrid on tour. 19-year-old Akshay Bhatia had the club in the bag at the US Open and the hybrid had the words “Apex” on the sole so we can only assume that it will be added to Callaway’s Apex range.
A weight seems to be positioned close to the face of the club which likely means that it will have lower spin characteristics than a standard hybrid. One thing to note with the new Apex club is that it appears to be a very large hybrid, almost a crossover between a fairway wood and hybrid. A utility wood. This would be a Callaway first and potentially a manufacturer first.
This club will be great for players seeking extra forgiveness without sacrificing distance and control. The perfect club for a par 5 approach shot to help you get closer to the flag.
